In the Studio this week

It's been a really HOT week here in South Carolina, too hot to work in the garden or even go to the beach, so no plein air for me this week. Instead, I'm in the studio finishing up a new oil and wax titled, Low Country Morning. I usually don't work this large (24x30) but I thought I'd challenge myself on this one. That's a lot of oil paint!

It's mid-August now, and as the days gradually shorten and the air begins to cool ever so slightly, I can’t help but feel a palpable rush of inspiration and urgency to immerse myself in painting for the upcoming fall shows. The vibrant hues of autumn—rich oranges, deep reds, and golden yellows—are starting to dance in my mind, and I find myself eager to capture the essence of this beautiful season on canvas. With each passing day, the anticipation builds, and I am motivated to experiment with new techniques and ideas that reflect the changing landscape outside. As I prepare for these shows, I am also contemplating the themes I want to explore in my work. Fall is a time of transition, and I want to convey that sense of change and renewal through my art. I envision pieces that not only showcase the stunning colors of the season but also evoke the feelings of nostalgia and warmth that autumn brings. In the coming weeks, I will be dedicating countless hours to sketching, planning, and ultimately creating pieces that I hope will resonate with viewers.
